Revenue here is the price after your own discount, the way CogsIQ counts it: a discount TikTok funds is paid to you by TikTok, so it is not taken off.

Each line

What each figure means

Revenue after your discount

The item price less the discounts you pay for. TikTok's own coupons are not taken off: TikTok pays you for them, so the money still reaches you.

Refunds

The share of revenue you hand back. Use a rate from your own returns history rather than a guess, because it moves margin more than most fees.

Platform fee and affiliate commission

TikTok's commission on the sale, and the commission paid to a creator when an affiliate drove the order. Enter them as a percentage of the price after your discount. Orders without an affiliate pay no affiliate commission, so blend the rate by how many of your orders come through creators.

Fulfilment and shipping

What you are charged per order to pick, pack and ship it: the Fulfilled by TikTok fee, or your 3PL's handling plus any shipping charged to you. It is per order, so an order with two units spreads it across both.

Landed cost

What one unit cost to get to a sellable shelf: the supplier price plus its share of freight, customs, duty and prep. The landed cost guide shows how to work it out.

Ads per unit

Ad spend on the product divided by the units it sold in the same period.

Where margin goes

Four things that move the result most

  • A flat fee on a cheap item. Fulfilment costs about the same per order whether the item sells for $8 or $40. At $4.00 an order, that is half of an $8 sale and a tenth of a $40 one. Try both prices above.
  • Discounts on top of commission. A coupon you fund lowers the price, and the fees still come out of what is left. A promotion that looks small can take most of a thin margin.
  • The cost of the latest batch. If freight or the supplier price rose on your last purchase order, the units you are selling now cost more than the ones you sold last month. Use the landed cost of the stock you are actually shipping.
  • Refunds. A refunded order hands back the price, but fulfilment and return shipping are usually still yours to pay. A few points of refunds can cost more than the commission.
From estimate to actual

What CogsIQ does instead of averages

A calculator is only as good as the averages you give it, and averages are where profit hides. Real orders carry different fees, different discounts and different batches of stock.

  • Every settled order's own fees, discounts, refunds and subsidies, from your settlements, matched to the SKU. TikTok Shop fees
  • The cost of the exact batch each sale drew from, oldest first. FIFO batch costing
  • Freight, duty and prep split across the units they paid for. Landed cost
  • Warehouse fees, ad spend, 3PL handling and operating expenses, each counted once.
  • Profit per SKU, per batch and per shop, on an accrual or a cash basis, with alerts when a margin moves.
Questions

Questions

How do you calculate profit on a TikTok Shop sale?

Start from the price after your own discount. Take out refunds, the platform commission, the affiliate commission, fulfilment and shipping, the landed cost of the unit and the ads spent to sell it. What is left is profit, and profit divided by that starting revenue is the margin.

What fee rates should I enter?

Your own. Fee rates differ by category, by program and over time, so the starting figures here are only an example. The fees TikTok actually charged are on your settlement statements.

Why is landed cost not just the supplier price?

Because freight, customs, duty and prep are part of what a unit cost you. Leave them out and every unit looks more profitable than it is.

How is this different from CogsIQ?

This calculator works on averages you type in. CogsIQ reads every settled order, every fee TikTok charged and every purchase order, and works profit out per SKU, per batch and per shop from the real figures.

Stop estimating. Read it off your own orders.
